The Honest Truth On…

GIFTS

This is the time of year when everyone talks about resolutions, beginnings, and how awful the past year has been. We quickly abandon the celebratory season in which we revel in the story of how mankind was given the greatest gift despite our failings. We toss that aside to mull over how we failed in last year’s resolutions and how we will not this time.

For a few years there has been something I have wanted in my life- I’m going to call it home- and I would ask myself why I didn’t have it. I thought God was withholding this thing from me because I wasn’t focused enough on Him. I promised myself I would be better, more steadfast in my Christianity, that I would be good enough to be given this thing. That I would deserve it.

I’ve don’t think that anymore.

Election Outcomes

I have a confession… I am a female college-educated millennial… and I voted for Trump. Actually, this isn’t a confession at all. If asked, I would tell anyone I was voting for Trump. And after this election I just might even say I’m a feminist.

Abandoning Leaders

I recently came across a blog post by a gal who seems to have a series calling people to say goodbye to Christian teachers. This post caught my eye because the teacher she was referring to was Lysa Terkeurst, the founder of Proverbs 31 Ministries, who happens to also be acquainted with someone I know. It’s a small world, folks.

Upon doing a little more reading I found that this gal, Michelle Lesley, has similar posts where many popular Christian female teachers such as Priscilla Shirer, Christine Caine, and Beth Moore are mentioned as false teachers who need to repent. Lesley goes through a few points to support her case for women abandoning the teachings of these Christian women. Now I haven’t done a lot of research regarding the purity or heartbeat of these women, this is simply my reaction to what I had read. Continue reading “The Honest Truth On…”

THTO…Human Life

Human Life

It has been a while since I have written anything because, well, there wasn’t much I’ve had to say. Or, maybe it was there was simply too much to say. In any case, the current conversation has put me past my limit.

You can’t have it both ways. Continue reading “THTO…Human Life”

 The American Dream

At my commencement the keynote speaker spoke about the American dream, and he said that in order to make it a reality you must be willing to work…

Some of you may know my story, but I love telling stories so I will continue to tell it with additional details. While there are many people who have college degrees and some who have received theirs recently like me, I do not think many people have taken the route I choose to get to there. It is said that Millennials have characteristics such as entitlement, being lazy, coddled, and materialistic. While I have seen people from my generation who are like this, I have not been raised to be like any of those things. My father worked hard to put himself through college and worked even harder to earn his master’s degree. While he has been able to enjoy the fruits of his labor now, it has taken years of hard work and conservative saving to get there (even now he would not say he has “made it”). When it was time for me to embark on my college journey, the government informed me the amount of money my father and mother could contribute to my college education, an amount that was laughable. Never did it cross my mind to be upset at my parents for not “doing more”. They did plenty to get where they are today and it was time for me to do my part.

THTO… Sacrifice

Sacrifice

While at work the other day, a lady I work with was talking (if people think I can talk, she has me beat). I know that is no headline, but while she was filling the cracks of silence with her words I had to pause and think about what she was actually saying. I don’t believe people do that enough, think about what they are saying and what their words mean. See, this lady was talking about how Burger King only offers promotions for their Whoppers and not their Double Whoppers, and “regular Whoppers just don’t fill me up, they aren’t enough, ya know?” to which I responded with a nod. But then I thought about it and I realized how privileged it is to say such a thing. Continue reading “THTO… Sacrifice”

Style, Sweetness, and Womanhood

Day 5- Do you make purchases to impress others or to reflect your own interests? Is it possible to practice contentment while also being stylish?

Purchases should reflect the individual’s own interests while taking other people’s impressions into consideration. What I mean by this is the purchase you make reflect on you and how others view you. We should not live our lives or make purchases based on how other’s will view it, but there are people I respect and I value their impression of me. I do not want to throw that away. I would not buy something that is not me to impress someone. Continue reading “The Honest Truth On…”

Femininity, Change, Beauty, and Influence

Darling Magazine is currently doing series of articles called “Twelve Days of Darling” which refocuses and establishes who Darling is and what their mission really means to its people. They are taking pieces of their mission and asking their readers to reflect on it. Personally, I love the concept of Darling and I look forward to see it grow and develop. Here is the Darling mission as a whole… Continue reading “The Honest Truth On…”

THTO…Minority In A Box

Minority In A Box

I have not been writing as much since school is in session, but this post is the result of some things that have been said in different classes I am currently taking. In diversity, one of the key points is how minorities are unable to be properly represented because of their lack of numbers. As a result, changes can be made that affect them without them being able to do anything about it. One the other hand, I have heard in my law class that some minority groups’ perspective do not reflect the majority and should not have an effect on citizens’ lives, i.e. the Tea Party. Independence Day

On a recent road trip I learned many things about our dear country. I thought I knew a lot about our county’s history and how it established itself, however I was basically informed most of it was incorrect. Excuse me for believing our history books… On this wonderful day that celebrates the founding of our nation I will let you in on some of the secrets I discovered.
