Human Life
It has been a while since I have written anything because, well, there wasn’t much I’ve had to say. Or, maybe it was there was simply too much to say. In any case, the current conversation has put me past my limit.
You can’t have it both ways.
Our president recently made a speech to a group of young leaders about “that harvesting organs from humans that are killed as part of an African ritual was “craziness” and a “cruel” tradition that needed to stop. He cautioned of dehumanizing groups of humans and of the issues that can occur when “you are not able to see someone else as a human being.” Which is terribly ironic. He went on to say “Young people, you can lead the way and set a good example. But it requires some courage because the old thinking, people will push back at you and if you don’t have convictions and courage to be able stand up for what you think is right, then cruelty will perpetuate itself”. He added, “If there’s one thing I want YALI leaders to come out with, it’s the notion of you are strong by taking care of the people who are vulnerable, by looking after the minority, looking after the disabled, looking after the vulnerable. You’re not strong by putting people down you’re strong by lifting them up. That’s the measure of a leader.”
So, if you are a young individual, killing and harvesting organs is considered morally wrong when it is done to a minorities, disabled, and vulnerable people. He believes problems arise when you stop seeing someone else as a human being.
Obama’s speech was made just after a video was released of a Planned Parenthood employee discussing the selling of body parts, or “specimens”, from fetuses to scientists for research. People have been outraged by this, but what is to be done about it?
The measure of a leader is the risk they are willing to take for ones who are unable to make a stand for themselves. The leaders are not the one’s allowing women the right to chose, but the one’s who are giving the unborn a chance. Great moments in history are often preceded by an average person taking a series of small risks to help others.
Our culture is not one built on acts of selflessness, but selfishness. This battle will not be won by arguing about the rights of the unborn child, they will only be countered by the rights of the woman. We need a different perspective to get the message across.
Talk is cheap, action takes courage.
Why are we surprised by this video? It is appalling, to say the least, but since when has Planned Parenthood allowed rules and regulations to limit their goals? They are not looking out for the woman, or her fetus, but for whoever will put money into their account. This is apparent in the candor of the Planned Parenthood employee in the video
The Pro-Choice group has used the argument for years that the unborn are not human, just fetuses. Okay…sure. I will let this slide, because that is not where the debate needs to begin. Pro-choice people honestly believe that it is alright to have an abortion because it is just a fetus, and not yet a human. If that is the case, then how is it possible to use the fetuses organs to harvest human organs? The fetus must be a human for it to provide human body parts for harvesting.
That is where the debate begins, because once they admit that the fetus is a human, then they must reconcile in their minds the morality of abortion.
As our very own president said, “harvesting organs from humans… was “craziness” and a “cruel” tradition that needed to stop”. You are right for once Mr. President, it must stop. And as you also said “it requires some courage because the old thinking, people will push back at you and if you don’t have convictions and courage to be able stand up for what you think is right, then cruelty will perpetuate itself”. Turn the tables and be forward thinker about this issue. Find new arguments to make the pro-choice side seem like an old fashioned stance and create the case for unborn children.
This video begs the question, how human does the fetus have to be for people to allow abortions to continue? Because right now the fetus seems pretty human. You can’t have it both ways.
